Penned in the Margins

Submitting your work

We accept submissions of unsolicited manuscripts and project proposals, but before sending your work to Penned in the Margins please consider the following hints, pointers and guidelines:

We aim to publish exciting, risk-taking new poetry

We are especially, but not exclusively, interested in emerging writers

We are interested in experimentation, and in performance

Factions, groups and schools are for the history books

We like poetry that questions itself, and poetry that makes you laugh

Penned in the Margins is a small, independent press; we do not pay advances and will not make your fortune

Poetry doesn’t always look like poetry

We edit all our books closely; if this is likely to upset you, please do not submit your manuscript

Our authors work with us to promote their books; a track-record of magazine/pamphlet publication, readings, residencies and so on is a good thing

If you would still like to be one of our authors, please send a sample of your work with a short covering note and biography to info@pennedinthemargins.co.uk

Please note that we are unable to give you feedback if your submission is rejected. It’s nothing personal, just that we’re dead busy publishing what we’re already working on. Remember, if you’re still unclear whether we’re the press for you, it might be worth getting hold of some of our books.
