Here at Penned in the Margins we’re thrilled to announce that we will be publishing Simon Barraclough’s Bonjour Tetris next month. This is the first in our new series of hand-made, limited edition chapbooks. Simon, a Yorkshireman living in London, is one of our favourite poets; his debut Los Alamos Mon Amour startled with its style, wit and grace, and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Find out more about Simon here.

Simon is a contributor to Radio 4’s The Film Programme and The Long View, and Radio 3’s The Verb – in fact you could say he’s something of a serial commissionee. Bonjour Tetris brings together the best of his commissioned works since 2008, with poems on the subjects of film, Kings Cross and computer games. Always, you’ll agree, a killer combo.

Here’s a sneak preview for your delectation.

Bride of Pinbot

Fritz Languidly you’d lean against the wall.
Make me live! Make me sing!
We fingered pelvic flippers, shooting steel
around fallopians into your eyes and mouth
to try to flip your face from chrome to flesh.
Now I see you! I can speak!
The pounding heart, the gunshot crack
of Extra Life, arpeggios of thrill until
you wailed that you were turning back.
