Are you a performer, theatre maker, playwright, writer, poet or live artist?

Riot Acts is seeking proposals for new live/performance work in response to the August riots in London and across cities in England.

We will select three ideas to be presented as scratch performances on Saturday 19 November at Rich Mix in East London.

This is not a showcase for finished pieces but a presentation of work that is as exciting as it is rough and ready. This is a great opportunity to develop or test out an idea in a supportive, critical setting and get a variety of responses to your work.

Deadline for applications: Friday 14 October at 5pm

What are we looking for?

Around 15 minutes of new, original material. We are open to individual artists and companies.

We are not looking for polished, finished work but pieces that take a risk, test the seed of a new idea or try something different.

We are looking for work that is inspired by any aspect of the riots and responds to it in any way – whether head on or tangentially, political or mundane.

We are especially, but not exclusively, interested in work that is experimental, collaborative, or uses new technology. We are open to work in any form as long as it is live.

What you will get

• A fee of £100-150

• Development and production support from Penned in the Margins and theatre director Russell Bender

• Rehearsal time at Rich Mix (subject to availability)

• Exposure to and feedback from to an audience of invited theatre/arts professionals

• One of the three selected performances may be taken on for full development by Penned in the Margins

Your proposal

Your proposal should describe clearly the idea you want to present, why it would benefit from and explain how it will develop your artistic practice

Don’t forget to include any relevant supporting material (e.g. scripts, texts and multimedia from previous performances)

Please download and complete the short application form and send it to info@pennedinthemargins.co.uk

Deadline for applications: Friday 14 October at 5pm
