This summer a masterpiece of medieval English literature is coming back to life.

Join the dreamer, Will, as he searches for Truth in the original “suburb of sin” at the London showing of Fair Field in Shoreditch Town Hall. Against a backdrop of social and spiritual crisis, encounter a cast of incredible characters – from Reason and Conscience to a binge-drinking Gluttony and Piers the Plowman – in an unmissable fusion of modern and medieval.

Written almost 650 years ago by local poet William Langland, Piers Plowman enters the mind of a wanderer, Will, as he falls asleep in the Malvern Hills, dreams of a “fair field full of folk” and embarks on his quest. Fair Field re-imagines Piers Plowman for the twenty-first century through a series of site-responsive performances taking place across the stunning landscape of the Malvern Hills and in unexpected venues in the nearby market town of Ledbury. Enter the psychedelic dreamscape of Piers Plowman and explore a world of inequality, political corruption and spiritual crisis that is uncannily like our own.

Created through innovative collaborations between some of the UK’s most talented artists and writers, featuring new commissions from artists including Breach Theatre, Annette Brook, Tom Chivers, Steve Ely, Nick Field, Francesca Millican-Slater, The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments and Ross Sutherland. Co-directed by Russell Bender and Tom Chivers.
