What happens when someone we love dies? How do we grieve? And to what extent can ritual provide comfort or community at times of crisis? Are the ancient rites of loss and mourning still relevant in the twenty-first century, with biodegradable coffins and Western funeral practices that seek to minimise or sanitise the bodily reality of death?
The Shroud is a new performance work exploring death, mourning and ritual practices in the context of diverse cultures and mythologies. In the first of two open discussions, join the project’s creative team to discuss and share your experiences of loss and grief.
With Siddhartha Bose, Avaes Mohammad, Russell Bender & Tom Chivers.
SPECIAL GUEST: forensic archaeologist Natasha Powers will share her experiences of burial and funerary practices.
