Cain shortlisted for British Book Design and Production Award

We are over the moon, thrilled, humbled and bowled over to announce that Cain – the new collection from Next Generation Poet Luke Kennard – is a finalist in the Literature category of the British Book Design & Production Awards.

The striking hardback features cover design from Ben Anslow and typesetting from Penned in the Margins editor Tom Chivers, as well as coloured end-papers, ribbon bookmark, and red and black text throughout. Kennard’s innovative Biblical anagram poems are presented with scholia – marginal notes surrounding the poems they describe – echoing a missal or prayerbook. Cain was printed in Wiltshire by CPI Group Ltd.

The British Book Design and Production Awards celebrates the beauty of books. It acknowledges those that “continuously innovate, push the boundaries and embrace new technologies to drive the book industry forward.”

Cain is joined on the literature shortlist by two books from the Folio Society, Lolita and The Grasmere Journal. The prize will be awarded at a gala dinner in London on 26 November 2016. Other publishers to reach the finals across the 18 categories include Canongate, Bloomsbury, Unbound, Myriad Editions and Penguin Random House. Click here to view the full list.

It is an honour to be a finalist for this award, which recognises the intrinsically collaborative nature of publishing. Not only is it testament to Luke’s ambition and invention as a poet; it also reflects the talents and hard graft of our designer, Ben Anslow, and our print partner CPI.

Cain is available to order online for £12.99, if you would like to find out what all the fuss is about!
