Skelton began the poem many years ago with the intention of exploring the history of Britain\u2019s landscape, only for the text to transform into a kind of literary s\u00e9ance involving both human and other-than-human.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Editor Tom Chivers said: \u201cI\u2019ve been a fan of Richard\u2019s music and writing for years, and am thrilled to be publishing this brave, original and important text. Conceived as a book-length poem, <i>Stranger in the Mask of a Deer<\/i> pulls you in right from the start, leading you on an immersive journey into the deep past. As timely as it is ancient, with its themes of environmental change and posthumanism, it\u2019s like nothing I\u2019ve read before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Richard Skelton said: \u201cI&#8217;ve admired Penned in the Margins for some time \u2014 their aesthetic, their diverse array of authors, their risk-taking commitment to writing on the edges.
