It’s a huge coup for a small, independent British publisher to be working with the much-loved singer, songwriter and actress. Beyonc\u00e9’s representatives initially contacted the press after reading Penned in the Margins Director Tom Chivers’s analysis of ‘Bey the Light’ in UK news website Metro.co.uk<\/a>, in which he described the poem as ‘riddled with clich\u00e9 and empty sentimentalism‘<\/em>.<\/p>\n Chivers, who founded the company ten years ago, said, “I was moving boxes of unsold poetry collections around the office when I got the call. When the voice said they were with Beyonc\u00e9 and she wanted to meet with me, I almost fell off the step-ladder.”<\/p>\n Asked if he was nervous editing the superstar singer’s poems, Chivers replied, “Working with Beyonc\u00e9 has been a dream. She knows her sonnets from her spondeees. She is, in many ways, the Emily Dickinson of her generation.”<\/p>\n Beyonc\u00e9 working on a poem<\/p>\n Knowles’ collection, Poems<\/em>, is scheduled for release in December, and joins a publishing list that features performance poet Luke Wright, Next Generation poet Melissa Lee-Houghton and experimental writer and performer Siddhartha Bose.
